🇺🇸Tomb of the Unknown . The changing of the 🇺🇸Tomb of the Unknown
.
The changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier is one filled with both inspiration and remembrance
.
Here are some facts about the Tomb of the Unknown:
.
⭐️The inscription on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier reads, “Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.” These words epitomize the solemnity and significance of the memorial, reminding visitors of the sacrifice made by these unknown heroes and the respect owed to them
.
⭐️The Changing of the Guard ceremony is a solemn ritual performed at the tomb every hour from October to March and every half hour from April to September. This meticulously choreographed ceremony showcases the commitment and respect that the military has for the unknown soldiers
.
⭐️The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is continuously guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, regardless of weather conditions. Members of the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Regiment, known as the “Old Guard,” meticulously carry out this duty with unwavering dedication and precision
.
⭐️The tomb contains the remains of unidentified soldiers from World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. The selection process for these soldiers involved careful consideration and solemn ceremonies, ensuring their representation of all unknown fallen heroes
.
For those that have served, we thank you-For those that have served that have their lives, we thank you ❤️

⭐️Origins of Memorial Day . The history and or ⭐️Origins of Memorial Day
.
The history and origins of Memorial Day did not start in 1966-The origins of this day go all the way back to 1865
.
The day was originally known as Decoration Day
.
Charlotte L. Brown, a freedwoman, began Decoration Day as a day to honor Union soldiers that had died in the war
.
It became k own as Memorial Day in 1966 years hen it became an official National Holiday-But the origins of the day and history of the day were almost erased as President Johnson at the time gave credit to New York as the birthplace of the Olof at, rather than honoring its true origin in South Carolina
.
Know. Your. History-And be sure to share with others the TRUE history

📚 Great Books to Add to Your Shelf! . I shared 📚 Great Books to Add to Your Shelf!
.
I shared about the first book in this stack, “Robert E Lee and Me” and what a powerful book it was to help further understand the push of the Lost Cause and it’s ripple effect across the South-WELL after the death of Robert E Lee
.
The second book in the stack was actually mentioned by the author, Ty Seidule, so I had to grab it
.
Dixie’s Daughters by Karen Cox was a complete eye opener in helping to further understand who the UDC WAS, and still is, and the strong hid they had on furthering the Lost Cause movement after the Civil War
.
Their main mission was to “vindicate” Confederate veterans, also vindicating the South, and celebrating them in ways that would not only justify the actions of the South, but ensure that the “Old South” and all of the racist ideals that went along with it continued-Particularly in the building of monuments
.
For me, growing up in the South, seeing these monuments everywhere-Including my hometown of Stone Mountain, these monuments were just “part of the landscape”
.
Learning about the history of the UDC and their purpose in creating their organization and the influence they wielded, helped me further understand the deep seeded “why” behind those monuments-Perpetuating the Lost Cause and trying to keep the racist ideals of the “Old South” alive and well
.
If you’re looking to further understand the Lost Cause and how groups like the UDC were created to further push that message across the South after the Civil War-> these books are a must read!
